المستخلص

The Egyptian village occupied a wide area in the contemporary narrative literature. It retained its own image, its contradictory reality and its
comprehensive human content which reflects smoothly and consistently its delicate formation and culture and bears its shadow that is reflected
throughout its long history and its multiple cultures.
The writer Yousef al-Qa'id tried to represent these varied features about the village in his novel "The War in the Land of Egypt 1978".
His novel has retained a particular shape in the performance and the artistic and communicative function. This is because it kept a detailed
and descriptive image of the reality of the village in the given village called Itai al-Baroud. The author relied on cultural references about the village's
world. These references expressed the concept of the village existing in the writer's mind.
Yousef Al-Qa'id has adopted the description of the village by portraying two images:
The first image: It is about the good knowledge of the location of the village and the comprehensive information about it through its
geographical map.
The second image: It pointed to the knowledge of the cultural content of the village through the employment of diverse personalities living
in the village with different social, economic and cultural characteristics and patterns.
The novel is based on these two images, which combined together form the shape or the external geographic frame of the village and its
internal content.
The concept of the village and its identity is embodied through the geographical dimension specific to it which describes the places, the
climatic and the environmental nature together with their impact on the shaping of personal identities.
Yousef Al- Qa'id kept in his narrative style a detailed image about of the village that formed his own geographical and artistic map. His
novel represented a different picture in the artistic view, which stems from the concentration and the narrative representation of the village with all
its details, where the elements representing the village were intertwined. Therefore, narration depended on the elements of "cognition" or
"perception". In other words, narration depended on the diversity of the "cognitive image" or the "perceptive image" in a dynamic form which is
based on the intensive repetition of some images and special places in the village.
This, in turn, refers to the concept of "the geography of cognition and perception", which reveals the aesthetics of the natural image of the
village and its relation to the psychological dimensions of the personalities. This is what the research in the geographical concept of the village tries
to represent in relation to the novel of The War in the Land of Egypt. The research can be summarized into a discussion about the prominent role
represented by cognition and perception in shaping the image of the village, reflecting its characteristics and making prominent the renewable
cultural characteristics generated from the depth of heritage and associated with the culture of the Land.
